Meet Our Team

  • Kevin Barton, M.S.Ed., CMPC, LPC, NCC

Kevin Barton attended Northern Illinois University where he graduated with two masters degrees in Sport and Exercise Psychology and in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Kevin’s counseling approach stems from Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and Positive Psychology. He believes that often athletes hold negative or irrational perceptions of their ability and performances which can lead to emotions boiling over during stressful moments, being too hard on one’s self, and performance anxiety.

Kevin’s areas of focus with counseling and mental performance include ADHD, achievement, athlete identity, mood disorders including anxiety and depression, men’s mental health, motivation, personality disorders such as narcissistic and Type-A disorders, stress disorders, team building, and leadership development.

Kevin prefers to take a preventive approach to those issues and build a strong foundation of mental skills to help athletes become resilient in the face of adversity. He also aims to empower clients to be successful in all areas of life, athletically, academically, professionally, and personally.

He has consulted with athletes from a variety of age ranges and skill level; from youth and collegiate level to internationally elite level. He has a focus on working with several sports that includes professional auto racing, baseball, basketball, golf, football, soccer, hockey, and esports. Other populations that he has experience consulting with includes singer-songwriters, first responders, physical therapists, and corporate executives.

Kevin has a background in research that examines concussions in collegiate athletes, mentoring relationships in sport psychology, and achievement, grit, and attribution styles in collegiate student-athletes.
